Key Developments in Robotics

1. North American robotics surging forward

In the first half of 2025, North America saw a 4.3% increase in robot orders and a 7.5% rise in industry revenue compared to H1 2024. The automotive sector led the charge with a 34% jump in units ordered, while plastics, rubber, and life sciences/pharma also registered solid gains, reflecting growing investment in automation amid labor shortages and reshoring trends.

2. China's ambitious "Robot Olympics" reveal both triumphs and teething issues

Beijing has debuted the World Humanoid Robot Games, where humanoid robots from 16 countries took part in events like football, track, table tennis, and medicine sorting. While the showcase highlighted rapid advancements, many robots stalled or fell—eliciting humor and critical insights alike about the current limitations of embodied AI.

3. UK robotics and AI adoption could unlock £150 billion economic boost

A new report from Make UK and Sage finds that British manufacturers lag in robotics deployment—ranking 24th worldwide in robot density (112 robots per 10,000 workers). But, with streamlined support for SMEs and AI training initiatives, the UK could add as much as £150 billion to its economy over the next decade.
