What’s Making Waves in Programming Languages Today

 Python Powers On Despite Funding

A recent survey of 30,000 developers highlights Python's enduring dominance. Around 72% use it professionally, and 86% express a preference for it over other languages. It continues to lead in areas such as web development (46%), data processing (51%), AI/ML (41%), and data engineering (31%). Notably, adoption of the newest release—Python 3.13—is still low (only 15%), with most developers sticking to 3.12 (35%) and 3.11 (21%) due to compatibility and convenience concerns—but experts urge upgrading for performance gains.

“Vibe Coding”: The Latest Paradigm in AI-Assisted Development

The concept of “vibe coding”—where developers prompt large language models (LLMs) with natural-language instructions and allow the AI to generate most of the code—continues to gain traction, notably in enterprise settings. It’s reshaping how software is created, making coding more accessible.

Karpathy on GPT-5 Pro as the AI Debugging Edge

Andrej Karpathy highlights a maturation in AI-coded development—he positions GPT-5 Pro as a critical tool for dealing with complex bugs. While simpler tasks are sinking comfortably to tools like Cursor, larger and more nuanced challenges call for Pro-level models. In this “post-scarcity era of code,” the intrinsic value of writing and deleting code is being reexamined.

The New “Programming Language”? Human Language Itself

Nvidia’s CEO Jensen Huang is pushing a bold vision: the next programming language isn’t Python or C++, it’s natural human language. At London Tech Week, Huang likened programming AI to "programming a person," where everyday speech can trigger code generation, removing technical hurdles and democratizing access to computing.
