 Cimatron Launches AI-Powered Feature Detection

Cimatron (part of the Sandvik group) introduced a new “CAD-AI” feature which automatically detects features in solid models (holes, pockets, fillets, slots, etc.). This integrates with its CAM automation tools to streamline CNC toolpath generation.Survey data showed many manufacturers see AI feature detection as a primary development goal.

Market Growth Projections / Industry Drivers

The CAM market is expected to grow from about USD 3.39 billion in 2024 to about USD 5.69 billion by 2030, a CAGR of ~9%. Growth is being driven by Industry 4.0, adoption of automation, data exchange, AI, robotics, IoT in manufacturing.

⚙️ Implications & Trends

Increased Role of AI / ML in CAM: Expect more tools that can auto-recognize shapes/features, suggest or auto generate toolpaths, possibly even optimize machining parameters using past data or feedback.
Templates & Best Practices Automation: Tools that let shops embed their standard machining practices into templates, which are automatically populated once the features are detected, will help ensure consistency and reduce human error. (Cimatron’s example is a start.)
